Who is Jey?
Jeunesse (Ms. Jey) Hall is a native of Kinston, NC, and a North Carolina Central University graduate. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master's in Public Administration. Ms. Jey has a unique gift for artistry and creative expression, which has led her to create many aesthetic handmade jewelry pieces and alluring homemade body products.
In 2005, Ms. Jey launched Natural Roots by Jey to promote wholistic hair health and wellness through education and service. She is genuinely concerned about healthy locs and natural hair; her past and present clients can attest to their positive experiences.
While pursuing her Master's in Public Administration in 2009, Ms. Jey collaborated with the North Carolina General Assembly to advocate for natural hair practitioners. She worked tirelessly to rephrase specific Natural Hair Care Licensure/Cosmetic Art components. This particular House Bill requires individuals providing natural hair care or hair braiding to become licensed. During this time, she solicited support for natural hair practitioners from the NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners. Among other concerns, her presentation explained the need to change the title from hair braider to natural hair care specialist. Thanks to Ms. Jey's involvement, as of 2009, the Natural Hair Licensure/Cosmetic Art Act and other related literature now read natural hair care specialists instead of hair braiders.
Ms. Jey began her career in education in 2020 as an adjunct natural hair instructor for Workforce Continuing Education at a local college. She cultivates students' knowledge about the benefits of offering professional natural hair care services, from the novice to the advanced. Ms. Jey stresses the importance of infection control, client safety, and professionalism. Ms. Jey will continue solidifying her footprint in natural hair care through education and service.
